Why This Boat Rather Than Another
It actually lands on Monuriki
Plenty of Mamanuca cruises pass Monuriki and point at it. This one anchors off the beach and puts you ashore, which is the difference between a photo from the rail and an hour on the sand where the film was shot.
Monuriki is 1.15 km long, uninhabited, and held in custodianship by the people of Yanuya on the next island. Access is paid to them. The Three Stops
Mana Sand Bar, Monu Cove, Monuriki
The day runs west from Port Denarau and works three places that each do something different.
Mana Sand Bar appears at low tide as a strip of white sand in open water, with nothing on it. You swim, you stand in knee-deep water a long way from any island, and the reef beside it is shallow enough for weak swimmers.
Monu Cove is the snorkel stop proper: a sheltered bay with hard coral, giant clams and the usual reef traffic of parrotfish and sergeant majors. The crew gets in the water with the group, which several reviewers mention after a teenager was pushed onto shallow reef by the current.
Monuriki is the last stop and the longest. Beach, bush track, and the view back east to Yanuya and Mana that the film crew edited out of every shot.

The crossing to the western islands is the longest of any day trip on this site, roughly two hours each way with the stops in between. If you are prone to motion sickness, take something an hour before boarding rather than when you feel it.
The crew stores luggage for the day, which matters if you are flying out that evening. One couple travelling onwards left their bags with the team and picked them up at the marina.
Weather moves the itinerary rather than cancelling it. A strong southeasterly pushes the snorkel stop into a more sheltered bay, and the skipper decides on the morning.

Is Monuriki really the Cast Away island?
Yes. The 2000 film with Tom Hanks was shot on Monuriki, sometimes spelled Modriki, on the western edge of the Mamanuca group. The island is uninhabited and the production edited the neighbouring islands out of frame to make it look isolated. Standing on the beach you can see Yanuya and Mana clearly. Castaway Island, a separate resort island also in the Mamanucas, has nothing to do with the film.
How long does it take to get to Monuriki from Nadi?

The guides stayed with us when snorkeling and were very helpful and attentive when my 13 year old was swept into the shallow reef due to the current.
